It's FEBRUARY!
February has finally come. Can you actually believe it?
Well, as you already know, Japan has a back-to-back celebration on this month. We have the Setsubun, which sets the start of spring in the old calendar, and of course Valentine's Day. So which do you prefer to celebrate more?
Setsubun is a celebration that I believe to be unique in Japan. Some kids love it but for others, the devil's face just scares them away.
And like Setsubun, Valentine's Day in Japan is in a totally different game. While the rest of the world celebrates women on this day (flowers, chocolates, gifts, and all), Japanese women are actually the ones gifting their men. Hilarious! But this doesn't come with a price though as come March, on White Day, men have to return the favor in two folds. Interesting, isn't it?
So are you ready to celebrate Setsubun and Valentine's Day?
